These are just some of our favorite things to do in the area, but of course, there are many more! So, whether you’re into the mountains, the lakes, the city, or all three – Interlaken could be the perfect match for your next summer getaway.

But wait, are you wondering what there is to do in Interlaken in the winter too? We’ve got you covered – check out our blog post here about what there is to do in the colder months.

Jumping from a helicopter is perfect for big groups! Why? Let us explain!

Five people can fit inside our helicopter, one pilot, two passengers (you and one other friend), and two tandem instructors. Although skydiving from an aeroplane will fit more of your group inside – it doesn’t mean you’ll be experiencing much of this incredible journey together. This is because once you’re in the helicopter or aeroplane – skydiving becomes a one-on-one experience with your instructor – until you land again!

As we’ll explain in more details in this article, not only do we have the perfect facility to accommodate your group, but skydiving from the helicopter means you’ll get to experience a lot more together! Oh, and if you’re interested in finding out more reasons why the helicopter skydiving is superior to the aeroplane check out our blog here!

Group Bookings Skydive InterlakenOur Facility

Our comfortable, spacious facility means we have plenty of room for groups. We have a large table upstairs for your food and drinks, a children’s play area, as well as a coffee machine, restroom facilities and a large TV with space for everyone to enjoy the video of the jumps.

Watch your friends exit the helicopter & land!

Our building is located right next to the landing field, so all you have to do is walk outside, look up to the sky and watch your friend exit the helicopter, then get your phone out to record their reaction as they come into land safely on the grassy field in front of you! An aeroplane skydive wouldn’t allow this, because all of you would be landing at relatively similar times and this means you’ll miss out on their reactions!

Group Bookings Skydive Interlaken

Check out the Jump on the big screen

Seeing as we can’t be together in freefall anyway, the best thing is to capture it on video! Once your friend has landed we will replay the whole jump on our large TV located downstairs for the whole group’s entertainment.

Now it’s your turn to jump!

Not keen on jumping? No problem, you’re welcome to just relax and enjoy watching your friends experience!

Otherwise, let’s go and we switch roles and your friends are now watching you. With the helicopter we jump easily for example a group of 12 people in two hours. For the planning there is no time disadvantage to the airplane. Your advantage with us, however, is that you can experience and see all emotions from your colleagues, you have already seen the videos and also received them. To be able to share and experience the emotions in this way creates an incredibly good and fun atmosphere.

So whether you want to organize a bachelor party, a corporate event or team event, or just a private trip with a larger group, we are the perfect partner for you. We are also happy to organize your aperitif, contact us without any obligation. We guarantee you an unforgettable experience, great atmosphere and a fun day for all!

Winter skydiving in Interlaken – what’s so great about it?

Interlaken, Switzerland is the definition of a winter wonderland! This traditional resort town is situated right on the edge of the Swiss Alps, towered by high mountain peaks and nestled between two deep blue glacial lakes.

As the air temperature drops, everything starts to freeze, and the vast, wild landscape is slowly covered by a thick blanket of snow. The coolness of the air also provides incredible clarity, you’ll be able to see for kilometres.

The Alps are looking their absolute best at this time of year, and being up at 4,000m above Interlaken gives you a breathtaking view of hundreds of snowy peaks. The pure beauty of this winter wonderland makes your skydive experience extremely special, you really can’t beat that view.

If you would like to hear more about the whole experience and what’s involved, check out our blog on a review of flying over the Swiss Alps.

The Ski Resorts

Whether you want to ride on the pistes, explore the backcountry or just have some fun sledging – there are many ski resorts to choose from that are all easily accessible on public transport within an hour reach from the centre of Interlaken.

Each ski resort is different, but they all connect with each other easily. Let’s take a look at the differences:

This family-friendly resort has a wide range of pistes to choose from as well as a tipi tent for apres-ski and many restaurants/bars.
  • The Schilthorn: while also suitable for family’s, the Schilthorn opens up some fantastic opportunities for free-riders, tour-skiers, steep piste skiers, paragliders and speed riders. It’s about half the side of Kleine Scheidegg but has a diverse range of pistes. If the snow is good, you can ski from 2,900m all the way down to Lauterbrunnen valley floor at 900m!
  • First in Grindelwald: There is no doubt about it, First has the best snow park, so if you’re into park skiing/snowboarding this is the place to be! There are also some excellent options for freeride ski-tours and some very good apres-ski spots.

With the cooler weather upon us and Christmas creeping in closer and closer, you may be feeling a little bit of gift-buying anxiety. Getting the right gift for that special person is important – we get it! That’s why we have a suggestion that will not only win you the best gift competition this year, but give your loved one the most mind-blowing experience they deserve. Yep, you guessed it – it’s a gift voucher for Helicopter Skydiving over the Swiss Alps!

“Fill your life with experiences, not things. Have stories to tell, not stuff to show.”

Tandem Helicopter Skydiving is a once in a lifetime experience

This experience is so unique because there are not many places in the world where you can jump from a helicopter in the most incredible scenery. Hundreds of people travel here every year to fulfil this dream, we often get people who have skydived before – but want to experience it over the Alps from a helicopter.

The adventure starts with a magical helicopter scenic flight where the guest will get a taste of the Swiss Alps from a unique perspective. Since helicopters are extremely manoeuvrable, they are able to fly through valleys, and close to the mountain which means the guest gets an up-close and personal view of the incredible surrounding terrain.

When the helicopter reaches 4,000m, the instructor will guide the passenger outside the helicopter to stand on the skit. They will stand on the skit for a few seconds to take some photos/videos and to take it all in! The instructor then lets go of the helicopter and they will then start freefalling at speeds of 200k/h!

At a certain height, the instructor releases the parachute and they can relax and enjoy a wonderful parachute ride around the beautiful landscape down to the landing field. After landing smoothly on the grass (or snow) they’ll be feeling an overwhelming sense of joy and accomplishment and won’t be able to wipe the smile (or tears) off their face!

If you would like to hear about the whole experience in detail then check out our blog “A Review of Flying over the Swiss Alps”

Safety Briefing

After conveniently being picked up from my hotel by the Skydive Interlaken van, I headed upstairs to get checked-in. I immediately felt welcomed and at home at the dropzone! I then was introduced to my instructor, who gave me a jumpsuit and harness, he then explained how the whole process would work.

We then practised the free-fall and landing positions on the ground – at this point, it felt real and I already had butterflies in my stomach! But I also felt very relaxed – this was all thanks to the wonderful, professional staff. After getting the parachutes ready, we got into the van for a short but sweet ride through a small village to the helipad.

The Scenic Helicopter Flight

A little bit nervous, but mostly excited I climbed into the spacious helicopter and sat in front of my instructor. With a parachute strapped to our back – this wasn’t just any old helicopter ride, our Skydiving journey was about to begin! The rotors started to spin, and I felt as light as a feather as the helicopter hovered away from the earth.

My eyes were wide open, taking in the vast mountainous landscape, passing gorgeous valleys, towering waterfalls, deep blue alpine lakes, and massive glaciers – the incredible beauty of this scenery completely blew me.

It felt like a lifetime that we were flying around in the heli and I had almost forgotten what we were about to do – until my instructor reminded me it was nearly time.

Standing on the skit

After the instructor put my goggles on and did his last checks, he put his hand out and gave me one last high five before he slid open the door. The feeling of cold air rushed across my body, and I realised – this is it! I was now standing on the skit of a helicopter hovering 14,000ft in the sky, the world looks a lot smaller from up here!

Freefalling

As my feet left the helicopter, I was completely in the moment, my mind had nowhere else to be. I was now freefalling towards the Earth at 200km/h, it’s honestly a feeling like no other and I have no words to describe it! I felt the pressure of the air supporting my body, I looked around and I could see everything, I was completely free!

The Parachute Ride

Suddenly – everything went quiet, I looked up and saw the parachute, the adrenalin is still rushing through my veins and I couldn’t wipe the smile from my face – I did it. At this point, I was completely satisfied and in awe. The parachute ride was relaxing and comfortable. My instructor handed me the toggles and I steered us above Interlaken with the beautiful glistening alpine lakes in the background. As I got closer to the ground I heard all of my friends and family cheering. A nice smooth landing on a grassy field gave me a feeling of absolute relief.

I am so proud of myself for jumping out of a helicopter from 14,000ft over the Swiss Alps, it is an experience that I will never forget and will sit in my heart forever!

In this article, we would like to outline the current Coronavirus situation in Switzerland as of 28th June 2020 and provide some tips about travelling around the country during this sensitive time. All of this information has been sourced from the official website.

Recommendations by the Federal Council

As cases in Switzerland slowly decrease, many restrictions within the country have been lifted. The Swiss borders reopened on the 15th of June, which means people from all over Europe are able to visit again. Although things are slowly starting to return to normal, the reality is that the virus has not disappeared and the only way to keep reducing the spread of the virus is to continue to follow the rules on hygiene and social distancing.

To help with contact tracing, a new app has been developed called “Swiss Covid App” you can find more details about this here.

Current news and tips about traveling in Switzerland

Overview of recommendations by the Federal Council:

  • If you feel ill, stay at home and call your doctor, you will then receive information on what to do next
  • Keep 2m distance from other people – if you can’t keep distance wear a mask.
  • Face masks must be worn on public transport
  • Wash your hands every time you come home, after blowing your nose, coughing, sneezing or preparing food.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water until you get a lather, then rinse thoroughly and town dry with a clean or disposable towel if possible.
  • Avoid shaking hands.
  • Cough or sneeze into your arm not your hands.
  • Continue to work from home if possible.

More details about recommendations here.

Restrictions Lifted in Switzerland

The good news for us here in Switzerland is that almost all restrictions regarding coronavirus have been lifted. As of 22nd June, the only measure that is still in place is the ban of large scale events (more than 1,000 people), which will remain in place until August 2020.

Swiss Safety Concepts

Safety concepts which are based on rules and hygiene have been developed by the Federal Office of Public Health for businesses and event organisers in the tourism industry. Swiss businesses are obliged to have these concepts in place before reopening to the public.

Public Transport

Thanks to Swiss public protection methods, you can also feel a little safer when travelling on public transport in Switzerland.

  • Face maks must now be worn by all people using public transport
  • The cleaning of stations and trains has been intensified, especially handrails, buttons, and ticket machines.
  • Until further notice, bathrooms in some of the bigger stations including Basel SBB, Bellinzona, Bern, Genève Cornavin, Lausanne, Locarno, Luzern and Zürich HB are free of charge to encourage handwashing.
  • Hand sanitizer has been provided at the bigger stations.

What about us here at Skydive Interlaken?

We are happy that, thanks to an excellent protection concept and strict adherence to the protective measures, we were able to reopen on 11th May 2020. This means that your summer dreams of helicopter skydiving over the Swiss Alps doesn’t have to wait! To book your slot, or get more information you can visit our website.

See more about our protection concept below:

Skydiving Switzerland

Extract from our protection concept:

  • No group formations over 30 persons.
  • Employees and guests keep the distance of 2m on the ground.
  • Masks recommended for distances under 2m.
  • In freefall, the guest is without a mask, the tandem master ensures mutual protection using a mask, including a safety helmet with visor.
  • For Funjumpers: There is always one place available on each tandem load (for CHF 95.- per jump), please contact us the day before. A Funjumper load (max 5 people) is CHF 475.- per load. Face masks are recommended in the helicopter, full visor helmet is no longer compulsory/necessary.
  • Helicopter sightseeing flights are possible.
  • Door handles, railings and other surfaces that are regularly touched by customers and employees will be cleaned and disinfected regularly.

See our full concept here.

What is the best weather for skydiving? The most popular question we get here at Skydive Interlaken! This is because everyone’s skydiving dream depends on one thing, you guessed it – the weather. In this article, we will do our best to explain the good, the bad and the ugly when it comes to skydiving and different weather patterns.

Our dropzone is located one of the most beautiful places in the world – the Swiss Alps! Alpine climates have rapidly changeable weather which is extremely hard to predict – even for professionals. Weather apps are totally unreliable, and should not be used to determine whether or not we will skydive on a particular day. Here at Skydive Interlaken, we can jump on most days of the year, and the different types of weather can make the landscape even more diverse and exciting. Therefore, if you are interested in booking, don’t bother checking the weather apps – just book! If we are certain that you will not be able to skydive due to weather we will contact you the day before to keep you informed.

The Good…

Blue skies (and no wind)
A skydivers dream. Blue skies (and no wind) make the day of skydiving stress-free. No need to worry about the weather coming in and slowing us down; we can just jump and enjoy the sunshine! When you see blue skies, and no wind – you will have no problems skydiving on this day.

Blue skies and some clouds
Blue skies with a few clouds around actually make the experience even more exciting! So if you see a few fluffy clouds around on the day of your jump, don’t worry, they will make your experience even more interesting.

The bad…

Wind

Strong winds are bad news for skydivers. High winds can push a parachute into places that skydivers really should not be – like over the town, lake or mountains. And even if the parachutes are able to make it back to the landing area, a strong wind can give a very dramatic backwards landing – so jumping in too much wind is a no-go!

Fog
A fog layer can look beautiful from the top! But again, can make things difficult for skydiving. The helicopter can usually find its way above the fog layer, but then we can’t see the ground – which can be a problem if we want to land safely back on the dropzone. We don’t carry a GPS and neither do the helicopter pilots, so if there is fog then we will wait until it clears.

Rain/Snow
Flying in the rain/snow sounds like fun! But unfortunately, if a parachute gets saturated with water when flying, it can get too heavy, and stall, which means the parachute (and the skydivers attached) will fall out of the sky… not ideal! So, any type of rain system, whether it be a small shower or a lightning storm is an absolute no-go for skydiving.

And the Ugly (but also beautiful?)…

Föhn

An added danger here in the Alps is a very strong, warm wind called the Föhn (in English it translates to “hairdryer”). Caused by a large pressure difference between the two sides of the Alps (Lugano and Zurich), this weather creates beautiful lenticular clouds (see below image), and the air feels warm – but can be absolutely deadly for those who fly.

In this type of weather system, the wind can go from 0 to 150km/h within a minute, so you can understand why this is the most dangerous type of weather for us skydivers. When the Föhn is high, we usually keep our feet firmly on the ground.

Here at Skydive Interlaken, our number 1 priority is safety! We have been jumping in this exact spot for 20 years, so it is safe to say we know this area and the different weather patterns well. This means, you never have to worry about the weather or your safety when you come to skydive with us.

If you would like to see what the weather is doing right now, you can always check out our live webcams here.

For more details about Interlaken, check out our website.

Not up for something as extreme as skydiving? Why not take a relaxing helicopter scenic flight instead! Get a taste of the Swiss Alps from above, in pure comfort – without the rush of adrenalin.

Here in Interlaken, we are extremely lucky to have such a diverse landscape, with many different attractions and natural wonders right on our doorstep. Because the area is so widespread, the easiest and most relaxing way to see many of these attractions are from the sky in a helicopter.

The helicopters ability to hover makes it possible to navigate these wild landscapes in the greatest of comfort and safety. The huge 360-degree panoramic view allows us to get up close and personal with glaciers, waterfalls, valleys, and mountain summits.

This experience has the whole family in mind! Whether you are disabled, old or young (from 3 years) a scenic helicopter flight can be one of the greatest experiences of your life.

Let’s take a look at some of the most popular sights:

The famous trio Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau
